The Party is Over

September 29, 2024

Without fail when my husband and I are traveling – no matter how good a trip may have been – something happens at the end that encourages us to go home. I thought we had escaped it this time. If you’re superstitious, perhaps I jinxed it. We had a lovely vacation in San Sebastian with another couple. Apart from a few minor hiccups at the beginning, it was by all accounts, a great adventure.

As we were driving to the airport today, I checked the flight status. On time. A bit later as we were in line at the airport to check our bag, I looked at the board and it showed a delay…but only 5 minutes. Sooner after, I checked my boarding pass and saw “new time” flashing. 2+ hours delay.

With our credit card, we have access to lounges in airports around the world. A great bonus to escape the crowds and get a snack + a glass of wine. This afternoon, we headed to the lounge in Bilbao and were greeted with a sign – the first I’ve ever seen – “workers on strike for better working conditions.”

A couple hours delay. A closed lounge. But still, by all accounts, a great adventure. Nobody appreciates the annoyances of life. But they happen, and they shouldn’t let it ruin the good parts. I didn’t know the point of this post until I started writing it, but I taught myself my own lesson.

The party may be over but there’s no spilled milk to cry over. Just a fun vacation with friends that has come to an end.
