This has long been the tagline for my blog, but how well I followed it, that’s up for debate. I’m very fortunate that I can make my own schedule (for both life and work), and have been able to take long weekends or bring my laptop with me on longer trips.
At the same time, I’ve convinced myself that I must work 9-6 with an hour lunch break at 1pm, save Fridays which I’ve mostly been able to reserve for completing my to-do list.
This year, I’ve had the opportunity to rethink this approach.
There’s value in being busy. If you’re someone like me, you’ll get bored if you’re sitting around for too long, not doing much and without company. But there’s also something to be said for slowing down. Reducing stress, minimizing runaround and being social.
I’m doing a better job these days of making and taking time for myself and also spending time with friends.
Honestly, it makes a world of difference.
In 2023, I’m being more flexible with hours worked. I’m seeing friends more. I’m allowing time to take my puppy for a walk or play in the yard without feeling rushed. I’m working on my side business.
Balance is never easy and it’s never going to be perfect.
But this year, my quest for the balance of life and work begins again.
